FOX CREEK 2008 RACE COURSE DESCRIPTION

The lap is 25km's in length and comprises 12km of single track and 13km of unused and used fire road. The whole cuddlee creek mountain bike park is utilised including the XC loops and a DH run. Expect 1000m of climbing per lap.

The lap begins at the house following single track on the left hand side of the fire road (race start will be down the fire road to accommodate the higher volume of riders at the time). Follow this left, climb the switchbacks and into spooky forest then into tin can. From there you'll make your way down the hill along a fast and sweeping fire road - lone gum - take caution of green ice on several corners. Once at the bottom you will start your climb back up again along link trail heading towards a steep and short fire road climb (Heartbreak Junior). Veer right at the top and follow the fenceline single track. Then right into singletrack and get ready to enjoy Fox Fast (one of the newer DH tracks in the area). Look out for the sweeping left hander at the bottom and climb back up again up "The Guts" through the middle valley. The climbing doesn't stop there. Continue your ascent up Ramsay's Ride. At this point, feel free to stop at the club tent and toilet for a break or to fill up your drink bottle with some water. Continue around to the right and head for the knoll. Go round the knoll before descending back down the valley. You guessed it....climb back up, into the fun native single track and across into the XC pine forest loops. Wiggle in there for about 8km's along the new and old single track (look out for koalas in the sugar gums!!) before sweeping out towards Thomas hill. That's not the end of it. You'll go around the house, through the outcrops to the lookout. Head down the other side of the lookout and be sure not to miss the hard left turn taking you deep into the valley. Then its the final up for the lap along heartbreak senior. Take notice of the lovely waterfall half way up on your left. Nearly there now!! Now just a "gentle" spin back around the house to the start/finish. Too easy!!

Now if you are super fast that should have been a nice 1.5 hour spin. All you have to do is go out and do it three more times. Easy.

Tyre choice

Sections of the track are sticky / slippery when it rains. A tyre that clears well would be a good choice. The DH track is a very mellow run and does not need Bigger tyres to deal with it. If the weather stays wet then a tyre like the Maxxis Ignitor or Kenda Nevegal would be great. If it does show signs of drying up then Kenda Karma, Maxis Monorail, Racing Ralph or anything with a similar open tread pattern would be a good choice. Remember that most of your lap time is spent climbing. No need to pedal heavy tyres around for the few sections that are a little tough.
